Is it real?

The "human experience" is a sort of "virtual reality": an "objective world" perceived and interpreted by "the body and the mind" to be independently existing.

  1. It's a bit of a shock to discern the "reality" I have inhabited is actually more like a "virtual reality" constructed through mental filters and concepts mistakenly taken to be objective facts. It's a relief though to be "out of the bubble" enough to see that I have been in a mind bubble, largely without realizing it. Thank you for this insightful post Tom...Is it real? is a great question.

  2. Hi Colleen, I feel that something like a disclaimer is in order here. Sometimes, in my blogs, the title is a bit of a joke, or a playful use of a common expression such as, "Is it real?"

In my blogs, the only aspects which I generally feel are worth questioning are the separateness, objectivity, and independence of "things" - NOT their "reality," whatever we may mean in using that word.

I'm with you on most of what you mention in your comment, but wish to add this note of caution.

You may not be aware of my other blog. It's title is, "Where can one stand?" This points to the essential inseeing that there is no possibility of a "see-er" separate from the "seen."

So, that brings me back to the title of this post, "Untruths," which indicates that these words are not usually meant to be factual, but pointers to "This" which we can never objectify, since "it" is what we are.

    Thanks for you're interest/input!

  3. Colleen, here's another perspective,

"Reality is for losers who don't play video games!" ;-)

  4. Funny Tom! I want to be a loser! Thanks for pointing out your other blog- I had fun visiting there- some awesome quotes and posts. The oneness of seer-seeing-seen is the immediate intimacy that the mind misses- thanks for pointing to the lack of separation...
